The blade of this Endura 4 Lightweight is crafted from HAP40 and SUS410 steels. HAP40 is a high-speed tool steel produced by the powder metallurgy process. Containing generous amounts of tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, and cobalt, it possesses exceptional toughness and high abrasion resistance—key qualities of a superior blade steel. To provide increased strength and corrosion resistance, the HAP40 core that forms the cutting edge is flanked by layers of SUS410 martensitic stainless steel. This unique three-layer construction can be seen when the full-flat-ground blade is examined closely, as the transition between the layers is clearly visible just above the blade's cutting edge.
The other defining feature of this limited-edition Endura is its stunning orange and black Zome handle. Zome (pronounced "zoh-may") is a class of traditional Japanese handicrafts that focuses on dyeing textiles. Inspired by this rich cultural and artistic heritage, the injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handles of Spyderco's Zome knives are molded in a light base color and then individually hand dyed by expert Japanese artisans. Using a technique reminiscent of classical hiki-zome (brush dyeing), darker colors of dye are hand brushed onto the handle to create distinctive, one-of-a-kind patterns.
All other features of this knife are consistent with the standard version of the Endura Lightweight, including a sturdy back lock mechanism and a black four-position hourglass clip that supports all possible carry configurations.
One of the most distinctive expressions of the Endura 4 Lightweight ever created, this Exclusive knife is destined to become a highly prized collector's item.
