Spyderco’s Sage Series is a family of knives that showcases the innovative lock mechanisms that have helped define modern folding knife technology. The Sage 3 highlights the Bolt Action Lock designed by the late Blackie Collins. This unique mechanism consists of a spring-loaded steel bolt that wedges between a ramp on the back of the blade tang and the inside of the handle back strap when the blade is opened.
While the original version of the Sage 3 had textured blue G-10 handle scales, the current version features black cubic check carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales. These handsome scales are joined by a solid G-10 back spacer and meticulously finished sanded back, giving the knife exceptional strength and balance.
Like all Sage models, the Sage 3’s blade is full-flat ground from CPM S30V stainless steel and features Spyderco’s Trademark Round Hole™ for efficient one-handed opening with either hand. When the blade is opened, the Bolt Action Lock mechanism automatically engages to lock it securely in the open position. Sliding the ambidextrous lock release buttons to the rear disengages the lock and allows the blade to pivot safely closed. In addition to locking the blade, the pressure from the Bolt Action Lock’s steel bolt serves as both a detent and a self-close mechanism to keep the blade safely closed when carried in the pocket.
An incredibly refined and highly functional folding knife, the Sage 3 includes a reversible deep-pocket wire clip that supports left or right-side tip up carry and makes the knife’s operation truly ambidextrous in every way.
